Los Angeles, the "City of Angels," is a world center of business, trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, sports, technology and education. With almost 3.8 million people, it is California's largest city -- and the second largest city in the United States. It is the world's third largest economic center, ranking behind greater Tokyo and New York.
Something for everyone
Los Angeles has everything you'd want in a big city -- glamor, money, culture and cool. The most diverse of America's large cities, there's something for everyone in the eclectic Los Angeles area -- food, attractions, festivals, fun and more. It has more than 300 museums and is blessed with year-round good weather. In the county, there are 88 incorporated cities. Some 26 million people visit yearly. And 71 million people travel through the community's four airports. Leading industries include tourism, hospitality, international trade, logistics and entertainment. Its port handles about $300 billion in goods annually. Its education sector is comprised of 200 colleges and universities, including the University of Southern California, California State University, UCLA and Pepperdine University.

Mediterranean
Los Angeles has a Subtropical-Mediterranean climate and receives just enough annual precipitation to avoid Köppen's BSh (semi-arid climate) classification. Los Angeles has plenty of sunshine throughout the year, with an average of only 35 days with measurable precipitation annually. The Los Angeles area is also subject to phenomena typical of a microclimate, causing extreme variations in temperature in close physical proximity to each other. For instance, the average July maximum temperature at the Santa Monica Pier is 75 °F (24 °C) whereas it is 95 °F (35 °C) in Canoga Park.
